Our Children

Supporting a child in Ethiopia can be an extremely rewarding experience, as you follow him/her through their schooling and young adulthood. It is a wonderful experience to feel involved in changing the future of a child. However, sponsoring a child is a commitment that should not be entered into lightly; our families are not just financially dependent on their sponsors but also form an emotional bond and are proud of the association. It is always very sad for the family if our team has to inform them that their supporter has stopped payments.

Some of our children in need of a sponsor

Nahom Wubet Nahom Wubet with his mother, Alemtsehey

Nahom lives with his mother, who is HIV positive, in Debark. They live in a small house, for which they pay 50 birr per month in rent. Alemtsehey works as a shop keeper to earn some money and is taking medicine for her HIV - she is currently healthy.

Degu Addissu

Degu Addissu and his mother, Tsehay

Degu lives in Gondar with his mother and older sister. He had a twin brother who died in March 2008 when they were 1 month old. Tsehay, his mother, does not have a means of making money at the moment as she has to look after Degu and his sister.

natinael asmamaw Natinael Asmamaw at home

Natinael lives with his family in Gondar and is a complete ball of energy! He is too young to go to school at the moment. His mother, Zebider, and grandmother sell things in the market to make money for the family.

Young Adults

The Kindu Trust supports children through all levels of their education until they have graduated university or completed some kind of vocational training that will enable them to get a job as a skilled worker. We have a number of young adults who we are supporting, despite them having no direct sponsor, as we feel that this is a crucial stage of their development.

Sponsoring a young adult is a shorter term commitment than child sponsorship, as they are closer to graduation. The rewards, however, are huge, and you can quickly see what a big difference your support can make in these young adults' lives. Please contact us today if you are interested in sponsoring a young adult.
